Thank god Microsoft is shoving Copilot AI crap into everything. One gets the sense this isn't going to be an isolated occurrence. From Bleeping Computer:
"Microsoft says a Microsoft 365 Copilot bug has been causing the AI assistant to summarize confidential emails since late January, bypassing data loss prevention (DLP) policies that organizations rely on to protect sensitive information."
@briankrebs Wow, not surprised but wow. This is what happens when we don't understand how the tools we use work

@briankrebs and over on LinkedIn people wonder why the EU parliament banned Copilot from its members‘ PCs

@briankrebs This is going to get a lot of people sued. Using Microsoft 365 is now a lawsuit risk.
Using Windows 11 machines is also a lawsuit risk. I am responsible for setting them up and it's a pain nowadays to clean them off.
What is wrong with LibreOffice? It works.

@briankrebs slop that work.
When our AI booster department comes and says: AI so good, everyone can use it and share the prompts they wrote. So good. Number go up.
I visualise prompt injections and data leaks. On top of it doesn't even work. -

@briankrebs Honestly, I think the tech industry is mainly interesting in showing everyone that uses their products how much they hold them in contempt.
Every day they find a new way to spit in our faces. And we are powerless to resist.

@boscoandpeck @briankrebs yeah, it's 2026, we should understand by now that Microsoft, Google etc are going to help themselves to any data they have physical access to, no matter how many boxes we check and how much they promise the opposite.

@briankrebs “It’s not a bug, it’s a feature”

Bug vs. Feature. It is a viable excuse to blame the feature on a bug. At least, it is a viable cover story after the fact. Helps when dealing with lawsuits.

@briankrebs "Microsoft has since confirmed that an unspecified code error is responsible"
I wonder how an "unspecified code error" in an AI tool might have happened... -
@briankrebs and over on LinkedIn people wonder why the EU parliament banned Copilot from its members‘ PCs

@tdpsk @briankrebs even prior to this newest bullshit a lot of state agencies were going against data protection laws just running Windows. since then they only have given more money to Microsoft. they have to take extensive efforts to stop Microsoft from sending sensitive data to US servers, creating additional costs and especially smaller agencies, municipalities and the like might not even know the rules and violate them regularly. even still most of them refuse anything not Microsoft.
-
@badsamurai @briankrebs i'm sure they have set an appropriate retention policy on each of the model's parameters

@briankrebs this is similar to Gemini's similar attack vector it sounds like? I am curious about the implications.

@boscoandpeck @briankrebs What's worse is that this is happening in spite people knowing how they work.

@emory @briankrebs There is probably someone you can pay, if you must have such a thing. However, it is a local office suite, so not that big a deal. For me it just works. If I have a user asking for "Office" I tell them, that costs and you'd have to ask your manager. But I can put a free version on right now and if you like it keep it.
Very often that saves an Office buy.
