1/n I’m on a long train trip again!

@venite I've got some bad news:
@anna BETRAYAL
-
6/n In a tragic turn of events, the guy next to me just lost his lead in the Ideal Fellow Traveller competition by making a phone call
️ 7/n My next connecting will be in about 2 hours. Just noticed that my connecting train is delayed by 15 minutes. I only have 12 minutes for the connection after that. Will I get Deutsche-Bahned? Place your bets now.

@anna They did a live rendition in London as well.
@ElBeeToots Nice! Thanks for sharing!

1/n I’m on a long train trip again! I’m almost out of data, and have a ton of work to do, but will try to share interesting updates if they arise.
Before the internet starts mansplaining trains again:
- yes, I’m aware of the existence of quiet cars,
- yes, I book my seats in advance, and in those quiet cars if available,
- yes, I know that I can book 1st class tickets and do so depending on availability and other factors.In fact, I’ve been on my train for only 30 minutes and am already regretting paying an extra 20 € for first class. One of the passengers here is exceptionally disgusting, he’s sitting opposite of me, and it’s busy enough that I cannot really move.
@anna Risking being a mansplainer to give a recommendation: (Active) noise cancelling headphones made public transport a lot more enojoyable for me. Just having a podcast or some music (doesn't need to be loud or anything) together with the ANC removes the basically all environmental noise. Also very nice for other situation with potentially many people or annoying background music like e.g. grocery shopping. If you've never tried that, I highly encourage you to give it a try. And sorry if that is obvious to you/has been recommended many times before. Just trying to be helpful

8/n One man making a conference call, two other men yapping at each other, guy next to me on his fourth phone call. Sad to report that silence is too much to ask of a 1st class quiet zone.

The reason why I don't travel on Dutch trains. Really. Either they're late, packed, or there's some idiot typing so hard on his laptop that the ceiling lights come down, not to mention buds with the power of a 1200-watt bass amplifier or jerks who stare at you the whole journey. Bad ROI.
