here's the magnet link for the Amnesty report on transphobes that Amnesty is now actively issuing DMCA notices against, because they've moved from being victims of Rowling to being active collaborators

@davidgerard this confuses me, if Amnesty Int'l cannot face one lawsuit by a bunch of weirdos, how can it have any relevance standing up to whole states and international businesses. This is basically self-destruction
@librarysquirrel @davidgerard They're being attacked by J. K. Rowling, a billionaire with an open chequebook, who's threatening to bankroll *every* right-wing crank named in that report when they sue AA *separately*, *and* she has a pile of government ministers on her side.
Basically there's no "freedom of speech" in the UK for non-billionaires. (And arguably never has been, at least in the past 50 years.)

@cstross @davidgerard And?

@librarysquirrel @davidgerard You're missing the point: if you run a general campaigning organization, can you afford to risk it being shut down by a malevolent enemy who obsesses over a single issue? Bear in mind AA campaigns for prisoners of conscience everywhere, against genocide, etc. Yes, the TERFs-backed-by-neo-nazi-money stuff is a huge problem, but is it bad enough to justify losing the ability to fight against criminalizing Palestine genocide protestors? Etc.
(There is no good answer.)

@cstross @davidgerard How can an institution lacking the resolve and power to stand up to a bunch of affluent clowns fight against entire fucking states?
Go away please
