A young Chinese guy told me in a speaking test that his favourite song was 'Hotel California' and even though it was a test, I couldn't help myself from breaking out in song with:
"On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair, warm smell of colitas, rising up through the air."
I began to chastise myself for my unprofessionalism but then he joined in, so we finished the song.
Cross-cultural and cross-generational boundaries were obliterated thanks to a timeless Eagles masterpiece.
