I can vouch for the fact that one totally stops hearing the subway rumble after some weeks 😂

Oops, there it goes now. Well, ok. Occasionally you'll still notice it!

@deborahh the Montreal metro line between Mont Royal and Laurier stations runs directly under our house. During the day, we don't hear anything, but around 1am and again at 5am we can hear just the faintest rumble at the edge of hearing when the maintenance crews go out, and come back, from their repair and cleaning work. I actually really like it; it's something only people in our neighborhood experience.

@evan yeah, I don't mind it, either. I love living in a city.
Ours is close to the surface, and right under the house, so it's always audible … but the brain filters it out, I guess.
But last year they did "improvement" work on the line - grinding the rails to keep them smooth, or something - and for many weeks after that I heard screaming steel-on-steel every few min., 18 hrs a day. It was a nightmare. (I'm on the 2nd floor. Pity the basement tenant!)
I hope they don't do that again soon!
