Coming soon in Mastodon 4.6 - a redesigned profile page.

@Equinox already there
@liilliil Ah, I see. Guess it just need to be implemented in the app I use. Then again, it hasn't been updated in a while unfortunately..

There's much more to discover! Read the blog post for more information, and let us know what you think.
These updates will start to appear on mastodon.social and other servers running nightly builds from today, and will be available to everyone in Mastodon 4.6, coming in a few weeks.
-
@Mastodon What happens when text in custom fields is sentence-long? In today’s listed view, it is readable without hovering. This new compact design seems to only allow a couple characters.
@frumble fields take a whole line if they have to, and get compacted if they have enough room to do so
if a profile field is long enough to not fit in a line, an ellipsis button is shown and clicking it opens a modal with multi-line text
here is how your profile looks on mastodon.social

@Mastodon Could you please allow users to post images and videos in quotes? (this is possible on other social media platforms)
-
@Mastodon Could you make an option to display the "You follow each other" resp. "Follows you" badge on the profile page, please? Preferably more (!) prominent than it was before you've removed it.
@Mastodon (I don't need a giant "Unfollow" button. But I definitely need this badge instead of checking the "Following" list each and every time.)
-
@Mastodon "You can also now add alt text for profile and cover photos."
YESSSSS!!!

@ClearlyClaire @frumble On my iPhone the sentence cuts off at "spiegeln ausnahm […]". That's not very mobile-friendly and not how I'd expect a PWA to handle different screen sizes and resolutions. Some other design choices look as if they were made just for desktop browsers, too.

@katzentratschen @frumble do you have a screenshot? This would have happened on the previous version as well, wouldn't it? At least now you can have a modal that shows the full version!

@Mastodon (I don't need a giant "Unfollow" button. But I definitely need this badge instead of checking the "Following" list each and every time.)
@katzentratschen @Mastodon It shows up if the other profile is following you in the context menu (if there's a option to remove follower, then they are following you).
To be fair, let's think on the pros and cons of keeping and removing. IMHO, I agree it ranks low in terms of establishing both trust and interest an account, because many spammers follow hundreds of accounts trying to get followed back (I often block them), but I don't think that's a good reason for removing this info. I also don't think there's a good reason for making it more prominent either.

Coming soon in Mastodon 4.6 - a redesigned profile page. We've used community feedback and surveys to inform these updates. In our latest blog post, @imanijoy explains our design thinking and choices. Here are a few highlights 🧵

@Mastodon It's nice, but longer custom fields would get cut off. I have a DNI (and BYF) field on my profile.

@Mastodon it all looks great, keep up the good work! .... and yet still you have to go faffing around in the source code to change the default post length on every update

@ClearlyClaire @frumble "Modal" refers to the "[…]" button that opens an overlay with the whole line? Cutting off lines did happen before, yes. But I don't think a modal is an improvement. Lots of clicking/tapping.

@katzentratschen @frumble yes, i was referring to that; right, it's a click, but before that, the sentence simply wasn't available to be shown fully; it doesn't cut off earlier than it did, it just allows you to see it in a more convenient way when it does

@katzentratschen @ClearlyClaire @frumble
@katzentratschen On the contrary! It was designed mobile-first, but factoring in the importance of other page content as well. For visible content in paragraph form, we encourage the use of the bio itself.
Thank you for your feedback!

@qgustavor @katzentratschen @Mastodon Thanks for the feedback, and we'll keep that in mind!

Profile editing is now a unified experience, with everything in a single view. You can also now add alt text for profile and cover photos.
@Mastodon Cool!!!!
-
@jeremyjackson @Gamrok @Mastodon thank you, and we're certainly taking this into consideration.

-
@katzentratschen @Mastodon Maybe there is a reason I don't use any other social network (despite having accounts on them because I prefer having than allowing someone to impersonate me again).
That being said, isn't your argument Argumentum ad populum?
