@da_667 this is life in general. I've found that part of maturing is realising all the ways in which you're evil. Even vegans have to draw a line somewhere, deciding just how much human exploitation or risk of animal exploitation they can accept in a product they buy.

@nthelt It's pretty easy to look up the history there since it's fairly recent, but the *biggest* thing is the software and the developer don't play well with others.

It was a favourite of the Spartans, gives strength and power and superiority, so it could only support yours, right? Ignore the tingly feeling in your mouth, that ceases after a few minutes. Adding a teaspoon of lead sugar improves its taste.

Use Windows. Accept the curse of the hunted: You are being watched. You cannot slip your pursuer, you cannot obfuscate yourself. Even if you think you've hidden yourself, because of how convoluted Windows is, you can't really be 100% sure that you are not being watched. And even if you aren't you won't know whether or not a critical update re-enables the watcher in the walls.
@da_667 Sadly, since the move back to RISC and given Apple's reluctance to publish documentation, we don't even have the option of wiping MacOS to install something else.

@da_667 this pretty much has summed it up for decades now. It consumes more of my time than actual doing the computing and really takes the fun out of technology anymore.
Just the fact that I have to spend so much time now to see if what I want to use is backed by a piece of shit is so tiring and mentally draining.

@da_667 I disagree, at least beyond the argument that *all* technology (including agriculture, fire use, and wheels) is a series of trade-offs. The evil pieces of shit who want to strip mine civilisation for short-term, personal gain are making technology morally difficult to take part in, but that's something *those people* are doing and isn't inherent to computing or technology in general.

@da_667 I really think this is the core reason every tech person I know has their non-tech fantasy backup, like being farmer. I think those fantasies are more about "moral injury" than they are about workload and traditional burnout.
