"I want to use a web browser that isn't deep-throating AI"

Well, your choices are lynx and that's basically it.

Chrome and by proxy all of its derivatives always make me feel super fucking gross, because the browser wants you to fucking log in to your google or microsoft account. The browser wants you to log in.

    What in the goddamn fuck.

there's no clear-cut "good" choice out there.

everything does seem to come with compromises, tradeoffs, collateral damage.

it's been a rough year or three. much harder to keep optimistic compared to 25+ years ago.

fellas, I'm gonna level with you. I'm starting to feel like computing in general is a series of trade-offs on how far you're willing to compromise on your morals.

@da_667 Computing is a lot like American politics, always has been. You just hold your nose and pick the least bad of choices and hope it will get better. Then every so often a genuinely good choice comes along and we nitpick it to death.

But then you're like "Firefox sounds okay" and then you see how hard Mozilla is deep-throating AI, and cutting their developer staff, trying desperately to be hip and relevant to shitheads who think hacker news comment section is the equivalent of greek philosophical debate

@da_667 fun fact, if you log in to a website on chrome using a google login it will sometimes cause the browser to just automatically become logged into your google account without your consent

Use linux. Accept the curse of the automatroid: most major distros are accepting AI commits. Accept that systemd has been a cancer for a very long time.

Use Windows. Accept the curse of the hunted: You are being watched. You cannot slip your pursuer, you cannot obfuscate yourself. Even if you think you've hidden yourself, because of how convoluted Windows is, you can't really be 100% sure that you are not being watched. And even if you aren't you won't know whether or not a critical update re-enables the watcher in the walls.

@cR0w Use BSD. Accept the curse of "The Burden of Knowledge." BSD just works. Except when it doesn't. And when it doesn't just work, its because you aren't good enough to run BSD. There are no tutorials. There are no blog posts.
