@jalefkowit Phil Collins did the drum break in "In The Air Tonight", and Peter Gabriel did NOT do the drum break in "In The Air Tonight". Q.E.D.

@jalefkowit genuinely a little surprised at Gabriel being up 2:1 in the results, here

@jalefkowit This is a trick question. Phil Collins when he was in Genesis? Hell yeah, the man was awesome. Peter Gabriel when he was in Genesis? I mean, okay, I guess. He was weird. But a good singer.
Phil after Genesis? Eveyrthing after Face Value can DIAF, but FV is still one of my favorite albums.
Peter after Security? Nahhhhh.
Gabriel being weird was what made Genesis, no one not weird could have written "Supper's Ready" or "I know What I Like (In Your Wardrobe)"

@jalefkowit Phil Collins needs to be drowned in paint.
(Edit: From other comments here, this is clearly a hot take.)

@jalefkowit No contest. As someone tweeted, this photo would be infinitely better if it was with Peter Gabriel.

@futzle@old.mermaid.town @jalefkowit@hachyderm.io fuck, guess I better check in as one of the few Tony Banks stans around.
@djsundog @jalefkowit @futzle It's a curious feeling.

Awww, man! I need a "both/and" choice, Jason...
Better yet: a "both" gig. Gabriel played Wembley and his drummer pulled out at the last moment, so we were treated to Collins playing drums at a Gabriel concert.
Quite the moment. (edit: Crystal Palace not Wembley)

@jalefkowit Within Genesis?
A slight win for Peter Gabriel. Considering the overall contribution to popular music, including the 51 years after 1975? Very clear win for Gabriel. -

@jalefkowit the only acceptable outcome is a tie

@jalefkowit
À propos of nothing, there is a tribute band that painstakingly recreates 1970s Genesis concerts as closely as possible and have been doing so for years. Genesis members have gone to their shows and brought their children "this is what daddy used to do". For those of us who were too young to see Genesis then, or still a twinkle in the milkman's eye, well worth it.The Musical Box

@jalefkowit @wnd Ironically I was only this morning listening to Steve Hackett’s band performing The Lamb... Can we have a third option?

@jalefkowit classic case of “why not both”
Phil Collins to me is the guy who was always on the radio, in some capacity.
Recently I’ve discovered Peter Gabriel, and I’m stunned by his artistic vision and sheer talent for making Very Big Music.
Put it this way. If I was commissioning music, I’d call Phil Collins to do me a three-minute pop number. For an opera, I’d invite Peter Gabriel for an artist’s residency on my estate.

@heliomass @jalefkowit sure, this is your chance.
I'm just in the "anyone but Collins" camp.
He was even annoying in Oliver!

Gabriel currently leading Collins 2 to 1, which may tell us something significant about how the fedi audience differs from the general audience

@jalefkowit Well the question lacked a bit context. Who's the better singer? Drummer? Stand alone artist? XD
