US troops are not in Germany to protect Germany. They’re there because the US needs bases to conduct operations beyond the North American continent. If Trump withdraws them, he will harm the United States, not Germany.
It’s absurd how many Americans fail to grasp this.
@Strandjunker A similar problem may happen with Costa Rica. We're fucked.

@Strandjunker Ethics by proxy: American defense roots at home, lessens afar.
And war should be the LAST ethic.

@Strandjunker well, it may harm US business interests, which is certainly tied strongly to the US state, but it will not hurt US non-ruling-class people.
-
@Strandjunker@mstdn.social Personally, I would actually feel a great deal better if the 40,000 troops of this mafia-terror state were to leave our country. That makes it more difficult for the USA to invade us.
@daswarkeinhuhn @Strandjunker you should draft a law that says once the US draws down, that number becomes the maximum allowed for any reasons.
-
@2legged @Strandjunker Any time in the last 35 years would have been good. Right now, not so much.
@rupert @2legged @Strandjunker (as an American) why are you so sure our troops would help you? All it would take is one of your citizens criticizing trump and your leader not jailing them. The opposing leader giving him a gold statue of himself and all of a sudden he doesn’t think you should fight at all now.

@Strandjunker OTOH, perhaps the US crippling their ability to operate globally while the orange idiot is the president is the best thing for the world right now.

@Strandjunker Demented Donnie fails to understand this, too.
But then again, he still thinks other countries pay for his tariffs and Americans don't.
Idiot.

@Strandjunker I spent three years working in Germany (not in the military) in the early 1990s, and was surprised at how many Germans did not like my presence because they didn't like our military being there. There were bars and restaurants who would not admit me because they had a "no Americans" policy. I'm sure there is no sadness on the part of many Germans that our troops are no longer "occupying" their country - which was also a phrase I heard while there.

@Strandjunker Maybe that's his goal. Not in a directed or managed asset sort of way. But attenpting cozying up to dictators sort of way. Simping for his senpai sort of way. He plans on stealing/grifting as much cash as he can, leave us in the most vulnerable state he can possibly can within his considerable control then bailing leaving us to burn.

@Strandjunker It's about the only explanation that makes all of his bizarre behavior make any cohesive sense. Maybe he hates this country as much as Putin does. Wants to watch it burn from afar as badly, too.

@rebelyn2 @Strandjunker Yeah. Because it was post-cold war fashionable to do so. That posture has shifted considerably with Russia once again as a threat. Night & day difference. You're comparing apples to oranges.
-
@Strandjunker the decline of the empire
@BlizzardA @Strandjunker We're not an empire. Not sure why people keep glitching on this. I can only presume it's because people don't know the actual definition of what an empire is.
-
@Strandjunker OTOH, perhaps the US crippling their ability to operate globally while the orange idiot is the president is the best thing for the world right now.
@aiuto @Strandjunker Not even close. The other two interested & capable contenders for 'world leader' are Russia & China. Whatever your beef is with the USA, you're not going to see a better world order emerge under either of them. Quite the opposite, in fact. We'd see imperialism re-embraced & nuclear enabled. Only a complete moron would see that as preferable.
-
@Strandjunker well, it may harm US business interests, which is certainly tied strongly to the US state, but it will not hurt US non-ruling-class people.
@kdwarn @Strandjunker Yes, it will. Our entire economy is lynchpinned by our superpower status. The value of the dollar internationally tanking would impact every American.
Most ESPECIALLY the lower & middle class. Upper class has their bets hedged in multiple fiat currencies. The rest of us? Not so much. The depression would seem downright bright & prosperous by comparison. -

@numodular @Strandjunker Not even a cohesive position. Try restating or reframing the arguement for clarity. What you posted comes off as a pure vibes position.

@micdan @Strandjunker We are only fucked if we passively let things happen. We must be willing participants in our own destruction, for the moment at least.
