Hey @OpenSourceCollective I just heard some news that you started using a certain "identity verification provider" recently that I think people will be very unhappy about.

It might be wise to make an announcement post about this publically before you get inundated with angry pushback from the large community of people relying on your services.

@liaizon @OpenSourceCollective now all these people swam into the same net and can't get their money paid out unless "papers please"

@liaizon I can see how being able to trust Open Collective is important, and maybe that extends to some ability to avoid white-washing schemes by criminals that use open source projects as a way to move money... but honestly sounds completely unlikely and I don't think validation of personal documents are gonna help... especially not with a third-party... it's easier to trust OC.
The people that cheat learned to trick verification systems years ago or pay/coerce someone to represent them.

@liaizon @OpenSourceCollective @opencollective thanks for clarifying! This is so confusing, I remember this now and I think it'll be nice if people who are experts in transparency also got a bit more clever about how that mechanism works when it comes to naming stuff almost identically 🤪

@liaizon I'm a bit confused which fiscal hosts this applies to. Does it include Open Source Europe? @OpenSourceCollective
