Absolutely no fucking idea how to use this Forkiverse feed.

Absolutely no fucking idea how to use this Forkiverse feed. Am I seeing stuff from everybody? Or just people I follow?

I guess I gotta go to "live feeds" to see the forkiverse server. "Home" just shows me who I follow, which is no fun.

@Bristleconepine what I've found is that you also have to follow #hashtags for your interests in order to see more content from across the #fediverse beyond users you already follow

@hardengine @Bristleconepine agree, hashtags are the way to go. E.g. I've built up a list of follows I'm interested in but also keep keywords/phrases in my feed e.g. #lichensubscribe

#Forkiverse is just another #Mastodon instance -- despite all the hype
Learn to use it just like any other Mastodon instance
Follow people or accounts that are interesting
You got this

@Bristleconepine I use an iOS app called Toot! (with ‘toot’ being the verb for posting on mastodon) and one of the tabs along the bottom is the forkiverse feed. I’m just browsing that now to get a feel for who’s here. My hope is that once the initial rush dies down, I’ll just browse the whole feed (that’s how I use the other niche community-oriented mastodon server I’m in). If it stays big and chaotic, then my plan to follow people and use the following feed of forkiverse folks I like most

There is your home feed.
What you follow. Follow a few hundred people and a bunch of hashtags to get it really working for you.Local feed
Just your instance (the fork one)Federated feed.
Might have to enable to be able to view. All the feeds your server sees from all the parts of the Fediverse. As such there is all sorts of stuff, such as not safe for work, spam, lots of news bots. Blocking/muting lots, helps tame this down and allows you to scroll and find the occasional gems. Also you can set up filters with words to block.
Muting/ blocking can also be done either permanently or down to 1 hour.
You can use lists to arrange people into different categories .
There is a hashtag tab, you can add a bunch of tags you are interested in, then just scroll through the results.
Various apps you can use to access the Fediverse.
Also different applications eg
Loops - short videos
Pixelfed - Instagram like
See https://fediverse.party/Boost stuff you like, it how posts move around to other instances. - eg small instances only see a fraction of the total. Normally only people followed.

Hi Bristlecone, welcome
Your main "home" feed shows posts from people you follow. If you want help discovering more accounts to follow, I've tried to list all the ways at https://fedi.tips/how-do-i-find-accounts-to-follow-on-mastodon-and-the-fediverse-how-do-i-find-my-friends
Feel free to ask if you want help using this place, I'm trying to provide unofficial tech support
There's also a lot more help for new people on the website at https://fedi.tips (especially the "Quick Start" section at the top of the page).
