One thing that actually gives me some measure of hope is this:
For all intents and purposes, the US always had some level of dominion over Greenland and Canada under NATO. If you envisage competing spheres of influence of the Arctic, with Russia and China both vying for it, well… in a way, NATO already established the US’s ‘control’ of the territories it now says it wants to conquer.
What Trump has done is weaken NATO so severely, he needs to commit troops for what he once had on a handshake

@Remittancegirl The USA wants and plans to just take any minerals or metals it wants from Greenland. Like the oils in Venezuela, it has no intention of paying for the stuff it will extract. People and the country of Venezuela (or Greenland/Denmark) won’t see a cent of payment. This is literally smash & grab robbery. The US must be stopped, by isolation, boycott or refusal to do business with US companies, and other peaceful political means.

@HarriettMB As to Venezuelan oil - it’s sour and dirty and expensive to extract. It will cost them for years.

There is a level of fundamental stupidity that encourages me to think this administration will likely implode internally.

@Remittancegirl @HarriettMB less costly than their current extraction methods. Shale oil and deep sea mining are not cheap.
Ans if you manage to not taux anything, it's a bingo.
As for the military cost, as usual, the taxpayer ils there. The profit goes to the companies shareholders. -

Trump thinks oil comes out of a hole in the ground ready to put in a barrel & that minerals sit on excavation walls like paintings in a museum & the billionaires how own oil corps etc. are only marginally less stupid. Trying to steal these things is almost always far more costly than trading for them. That's how we got international trade to begin with, after all.
