    @JessMahler
    Also from hooks, All about love
    Also from hooks, The will to change
    Documentary: The mask you live in https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3983674/

    And well, the rest is just LOTS of academia...

    Thanks! I don't know if they're up for academia, but this gives me more of a starting place.

      @JessMahler I guess there's also Meg-John Barker's "Gender: A graphic history"

        Searching for womanist and queer resources on masculinity for my godkid (Black queer teenager). They are searching for something and keep stumbling on borderline redpill videos. Want to give them better perspectives sooner rather than later.

        I'm getting him a copy of bell hook's We Real Cool, but does anyone have other suggestions? YouTube channels would be ideal, but other suggestions are welcome.

        I'm considering adding Hari Zayid's "Black Boy Out of Time" to the list, but it's a pretty rough read.

          @JessMahler hooks' "Will to change" is particularly powerful. I remember a part where she goes something like "The first victims of patriarchy are young boys". Powerful stuff.

            @danielscardoso
            It's been on my to-read list, I'll need to bump it up as well as getting them a copy.

              @JessMahler speaking of rough reads, Baldwin's "Go tell it on the mountain" is also something else...

                His "The Fire Next Time" was one of the few nonfiction pieces I've been able to read without struggling. Amazing writer voice. But he does not pull punches. I'll need to check that one out.

                  @JessMahler I guess it can be seen as a young man trying to be different from his father, while not realizing how similar he was being.

                      the #manosphere is big on promoting so-called carnivore diet;
                      and where i live, #toxicmasculinity is often centered around #hunting.
                      #disclosurepodcast inters is one of my favourite people in opposition to this. he has a gentle and thoughtful way of expressing himself.

                      he did an amazing job recently on #swedish TV:
                      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GrAvvDoRUws

                      for non-yt stuff, he also has a podcast, #disclosurepodcast, https://www.buzzsprout.com/254157/episodes/968774-ep-3-the-dark-confessions-of-an-ex-animal-farmer.mp3
