@VoquiLeibbrandt When there's no upshot from using electricity you generate at home, why is this a problem? 🫲

the problems we are facing are primarily:
1. destroying the climate with CO2
2. funding vile regimes with petrodollarsyour concern about overconsumption is valid, but when you take your concern as a reason to have a problem with solar, you are only serving the fossil fuel industry
is that your intent?
if it isn't, temper your words and arrange your priorities and speak responsibly

@dianea We've been thinking about expanding our panels and getting an electric car, which is perhaps were the real "danger" is.

@VoquiLeibbrandt @jensorensen as every residential rooftop solar user will tell you, at great length, regardless of whether you asked, long after you begged them to stop: generating one's own power makes a person hyper-aware of the energy they're using simply because of how much they love bragging about the energy they're producing vs consuming.
They will also tell you that an increasingly decentralized electrical grid dilutes the political power of the investor-owned utilities.

🫱 @jensorensen@weezmgk @VoquiLeibbrandt @jensorensen everybody knows solar pannels are produced at no ecological cost and produce no waste at the end of it’s short life cycle. Yeah. I believe in unicorns and sustainable consumism in a finite planet. Capitalism depends on eternal growth, didn’t you know it? Besides, not a ml of oil was needed in the production of any solar pannel… wake up you all technoptimists.

@pomubieng Incorrect. 30 years or so. @VoquiLeibbrandt @jensorensen

@pomubieng So you don't have anything of value to say, you're just here to be kind of a dick, right?

@VoquiLeibbrandt I don’t think so, because with Solar panels you can clearly see that energy is limited: they take up visible space, usually close to where you live.
I rather see that people who have their own solar panel at home become more conscious about their energy use.
Because they realize how much cheaper they live if they manage to run big consumers (washing machines, dish washers, the oven) while the sun is up.
