@tyzbit This was shot on a special solar telescope. It uses filters to make a different layer (chromosphere) visible. So instead of sun spots, you can see actual flares shot into space by the sun.

What causes the moon's edge to be brighter?

@sn0opy Huh, why are the edges brighter? Normally you'd expect the limb of the sun to be darker than the middle, and no edge brightening or darkening at the edge of the part obscured by the moon.

@zuthal This is due to the editing. The image was inverted to make certain features stand out. Really just an artistic choice because otherwise this would be a slightly blurry black and white image.
