If you are on an escalator or moving walkway in an airport and you are standing on the left (or worse, in the middle), you are a bad person and you should feel bad about yourself.

You are, by definition, in a place where many other people are in a giant fucking hurry. Come on. We live in a society, dickhead.

@marty it's left in the UK

@pluralistic
🤭 Why are they in an airport and not in a hurry? Is it the pilot? -

@pluralistic damn, I feel that.

@marty @pluralistic I'm from the UK. Nope, standing is on the right, moving on the left.

@pluralistic surely left or right is going to be cultural?
As long as you leave enough space for getting past you, does it really matter if it's left or right?

@pluralistic first world problem? My 8 year old did this until I explained it to her, no thumb-typing required.

@pluralistic If I may add, same applies to lowering your backrest backwards on a coach. It's guaranteed you will make the life of the person behind you miserable. Why would they even make a system where you are invited to increase your own comfort by depriving your neighbor of it?

@pluralistic i only have one good arm to hang on with & that's my left so i'm going to stand on the left. sorry, not sorry.

@pluralistic last time I was in an airport, I came up behind a couple, with trolleys, standing side by side, completely blocking the moving walkway. They saw me approach but didn’t make space.
Me “excuse me! “
.
Nothing
.
“Me: This is so that people can move faster, not so they can just stand there!”
.
.
.
Them: apoplexy! But they let me past

@pluralistic I agree; nonetheless, when I read your post, it was suddenly in a Zoidberg voice.

@pluralistic I find the left side more convenient, perhaps because I am left-handed.
Anyway, I mostly use the stairs. -
