Nearly 500,000 russian citizens enjoyed European holidays last year. Meanwhile, Ukrainians were dying on the battlefield.

It’s time to end Schengen tourist visas for russian tourists. Holidays in the EU are a privilege, not a right for citizens of a country waging war on our continent.

I don't think that we should generally discriminate all Russian citizens for having the wrong president there are enough Russian,s that suffer themself under Putin.

Also I dont want to be hold responsible, or personal punished for the German government I didn't vote for.

It's not just "putin's War", it is "russia's War"

This will leave a stain on russian society and politics that will remain long after putin is gone.

We don't have the luxury to be selective in which Russian we allow to enter and which not.

During the 2024 ASE Planetary Congres in the space centre in Noordwijk - the Netherlands all alive American and European astronauts gathered for a conference that is very much non-political. Their personal friends, Russian Cosmonauts, were invited but none of them were able to make it to the conference due to sanctions. No exceptions made.

This is how consistent sanctions work.

@EugeneMcParland How about not just Russia. How about enact that ban on Russians with a ban on visas for citizens of the USA?

The USA has been arming and funding and diplomatically protecting a #genocide in #Gaza for nearly 3 years, and attacking Iran for several months.

Or are illegal wars of aggression fine when carried out by English speakers?

@EugeneMcParland if russia was a democracy, i would support this sanction (but with exceptions for people with proof they voted against it), but russia is an autocracy, so this is just collective punishment for the actions of putin

I mean, does attacking civilians to achieve the military goal of annexation count as terrorism. Both Israel and Russia's militaries have done this.

More to the original point, Russia's economy is suffering greatly right now because it's neglecting domestic welfare in order to achieve victory in Ukraine. Russians are having difficulty even filling their cars with enough gas to get home from the station. I'd put pretty good odds the Russians who can still afford to travel at all, let alone abroad, are either directly or indirectly complicit.

@wolf @EugeneMcParland That's exactly how all German civilians were rightfully treated during WWII. Nobody checked Germans' voting records. That's how Russians should be treated now. It's physically painful to me to agree with the EPP on anything (and I know they're doing it because they're not in power in most Russian oligarchs destinations), but it boggles the mind that anyone thinks the vast majority of visa beneficiaries are dissidents, rather than vatniks flying their mistress to Cannes.

@pictor @EugeneMcParland ... have you ever heard a "not interested in politics" average Russian talk about Ukraine?

@EugeneMcParland if russia was a democracy, i would support this sanction (but with exceptions for people with proof they voted against it), but russia is an autocracy, so this is just collective punishment for the actions of putin

I don't think that we should generally discriminate all Russian citizens for having the wrong president there are enough Russian,s that suffer themself under Putin.

Also I dont want to be hold responsible, or personal punished for the German government I didn't vote for.
