It's time to reintroduce yourself to Dewey Decimal, my dear!

@ToonLink hey! In my first sketch, I designed big arms on the top of the machine (to pick books around) but it felt complex and also it had something a bit agressive or dangerous.
I then decided it was a sort of teleportation thing, yep. That's one advantage of having a setup in a magic university

@yacc143 I agree! I remember exactly during a coding sprint with the Krita team back in 2018 having this discussion around the table and each one sharing what they used because it started to be impossible to just find quickly issues, debug info, things in various documentation, etc...
But the AI era really made everything go faster downhill. I'm convinced by that.
@davidrevoy Sure, the irony is, that today I have to use a mix of a high quality deep research (yes LLM based) assistant (fine tuned, it starts with: all claims must come with double checked references, to guard against hallucinations, ...), Qwant, and for some stuff when the size of the index matters still old Google (manually, by agent to pick out the truffles in the pigsty, or custom scripted filters to find what I look for.)
Yes, it's an adverse environment.

@lazcht Same for the search engine; DDG + ublock Origin on Firefox, and some AI additional blocklist. It's not that I particularly like it, it just remained there as the "less terrible option" and kind of stuck this way in my habits.
But I had a lot of suggestion after this episode, so I'll study them. -
I think the user @Linux is the person who published this list, and that was their goal, trying to find businesses that were truly not owned by Americans. That has to be a daunting task, and I appreciate that someone went through the trouble.
@Zelda @Linux @davidrevoy Thanks for posting. I've seen a number of such lists and they're incredibly helpful. There are many people who understand the need to get off US tech and have no idea how. (The other overwhelming task: How to convince people like my husband and son that it actually matters.)
