My recent underwear post has a boost for each hashtag on it, and fuck this bot using my AlicePics tag as a username to boost all my nudes.
People can already follow hashtags, we don't need an *opt-out* bot-swarm to make things more "discoverable".
I don't need *every* server to see my nudes. Just the ones who have my actual, human¹ followers on them.
Edit: the owner of tags.pub suggested we also block the rest of his domains: groups.pub, activitypub.bot, and onepage.pub

@alice oh it's one of prodromo's projects, dude wouldn't understand consent if it bit him in the ass

@Unixbigot @alice @kirtai The problem this is trying to solve is also already solved - in a much better way. You can add relays from relay.fedi.buzz with individual tags (and I think maybe other things?) and they'll just show up like regular posts, which you can interact with.
There are definitely still concerns, but...

@autumn @Wizkid_alex a request to block these domains since the software doesn't respect user level domain blocks
-
@alice Especially when fedi.buzz exists and actually does things in a non-stupid, opt-in way...
@BalooUriza @alice I agree! Anyone who doesn't want to use tags.pub should definitely use Fedibuzz. It's a great service.

@alice@lgbtqia.space Thank you for the heads-up Alice, I have them added to my instance block-list.

@Jadus_Developus you're welcome. I figured if I was this appalled about something, there was a good chance folx I know would want to know and take action too.

@alice blocked, and holy hell what a wild set of threads to get caught up on. Why can't we just have this one nice thing?

@lizzierose At some point I blocked them in the past. It's interesting to see this fire up because I recall running into their website and I was like "wait, they think they're some magnanimous fediverse org providing service?"
I did block that one account that seemed to represent themself in some way as an operator of the "service" today.

Perhaps just watch his dns registrations and block the list automatically?

@alice I should re-enable boost notifications again. I would have caught it earlier today

️I don't understand what problem this is trying to solve exactly, since we have hashtags and they can be followed by people that are interested in them

@alice So I wasn't aware of these servers, but my server very much was. Defederating purged 92 contacts from my database. It's usually two or three. -

@alice How to (as a user, not a host)
That’s my biggest hurdle
-
@alice Especially when fedi.buzz exists and actually does things in a non-stupid, opt-in way...
@BalooUriza uh fedibuzz isn’t great either. They use the streaming endpoint in a way that it wasn’t designed for, without the consent of the server admins, federating posts to servers that the origin doesn’t know about (often from other servers), and thus things like edits and deletes don’t know to be sent to those servers that got posts from fedibuzz relays. And when the unauthenticated streaming access was closed in mastodon, they asked regular users to “donate” api keys for their servers to continue doing this. I’d argue that fedi buzz is worse than a boost bot because the users dont even know their posts are being rebroadcast in this way

@MarkBrigham @alice #NoBot in your profile is supposed to work. Super dickwad move on their part, though. We shouldn’t have to opt-out of their unasked-for “service."

@MarkBrigham search up a user from their domain, open the dot menu, select block server, confirm.

@alice FINALLY an explanation of what those annoying things are. Thank you. The tags started appearing on some posts a few days ago and I guessed it was some kind of fuckery.

@Unixbigot @alice @kirtai But also FFS he's part of the SWICG. He can solve it at a standards level (it'll take time, sure), instead of doing weird hacks like this that don't solve anything at all.
