I see Starmer has given a speech about how we must all embrace AI.
So what I want to know: who wrote his speech: a human speechwriter, or an AI?
It seems a politician's speech is the perfect task for AI. It has to sound good, and AI is good at that. It doesn't have to be accurate. No-one takes anything Starmer says seriously anyway.
So if he's not using AI for a task that it seems to be made for, why does he expect the rest of us to use it?

“The prime minister also announces the government's new AI job tool "to help those out of work find the right jobs, create their CVs and get back into work".”
Or, maybe give some people who need to get back into work the role of then helping other people into work? Rather than paying for AI??

@statsguy Oh FFS. I can't help wondering what kind of Exec Directorships in "AI adjacent" companies he's got lined up for when he gets his arse kicked out of No.10.
Meanwhile, in Brick Lane:

@MiaMarkTwo Maybe Rishi will give him a job in whichever big tech company he's ended up in

@statsguy That's reminded me of that clip of them being extremely chummy at the King's Speech a few years' back.
Literally nothing would surprise me now.

@statsguy
> He says that if companies operating in the UK do not introduce device controls to prevent children from sending and receiving sexually explicit images, the law will be changed, he says. "Standing by is not an option.""unless you do as we say, we'll make a law" sounds very much like standing by to me…
edit: it's the old goon show joke, isn't it? "open this door or i'll break every bone in my fist!"

@MiaMarkTwo I went on a little tour of bits of the East End of London last summer with my uncle and my brother to visit various sites relating to our Jewish roots. Had a ridiculously tasty hot salt beef bagel from a bagel shop on Brick Lane. It would make me very said if that kind of thing got replaced by a data centre.

@statsguy I used to live just round the corner from Brick Lane back in the day - home of some of the best curries in London, and two iconic bars, the Vibe and 93 Street East.
Imagine planning a data centre right in the centre of London. 'Kin ridiculous.

️@rachel @statsguy @christineburns if there's 80 vacancies and 100 unemployed applicants, all AI can do is waste the time of the hiring managers as each applicant applies speculatively for jobs they wouldn't manually tailor an application for. At the end of the day 20 of them will still be unemployed
