Say what you will about state violence, but •orderly• state violence — an officer with a face and a badge, Miranda rights, an orderly booking, the constitutional phone call, the jail roster, the habeas corpus petition, a trial, a system, a process, maybe once in a blue moon consequences for officers’ most egregious abuses — is infinitely preferable to what ICE is now: a secret police with blanket immunity.
All that stuff in the previous post is what makes an arrest an •arrest•. ICE isn’t conducting arrests. They’re conducting abductions.

@inthehands man, why didn’t i think of that?
let’s get out there folks: the only thing preventing us from wholesale looting and rape is “donald trump’s morality”. so do whatever you think that means. a residential pardon sits in the wings with your name in it.

@inthehands this is why everyone should assume it is a kidnapper and NOT assume it is ICE and defend yourselves accordingly. These men ARE armed and dangerous and I for one will not assume that any strange masked man with a gun has any authority over me or any other person in their vicinity; I will perceive a threat as a threat.

What @tropicalchaos says here — and it’s so reasonable, right? — is why I’m just astonished that nobody’s shot an ICE agent yet.

@inthehands honestly it is right at a boiling point and I would put my money on the people, if we organize correctly, we outnumber those asshats. But it is wild to see just how much cruel and unusual punishment people need to watch before they decide to ACT!

I think the whole wretched crew of the Trump regime are astonished about this too. They’ve been doing everything they possibly can to get somebody, anybody to shoot an ICE agent, whether in rage or well-justified self-defense. They’re desperate for it.

This poses a vexing problem for resistance: a direct force-on-force assault against ICE by small groups of citizens is foolish…but holding signs and waiting for the next election sure as hell ain’t gonna cut it either.
We have to find ways to fight back on the streets — but it has to look good on TikTok and on the news and to members of Congress and judges and the gaze of the whole world. Cameras and whistles are a start, but it can’t stop there. All this is not just going away on its own.

Somewhere between pacifism that is just passivism and starting a pyrrhic hot war that only entrenches authoritarianism, there’s some kind of jiu jitsu here that is active and forceful resistance, but uses the regime’s own force against them.
I do not pretend to know what exactly that is. I do believe that a diversity of tactics is important — and that we’re all going to have to accept the work of holding ourselves together as a resistance even as people choose very different tactics we’re not comfortable with ourselves.

@inthehands Sharks with … lasers. Except the sharks are optional.

We outnumber them, but we don’t come close to out-arming the military. If the escalation isn’t halted by Congress or courts or an election — and I’m not counting on any of those — if it proceeds to the cusp of total authoritarian consolidation, then a whole lot hinges on which way the US military rank and file goes.

@inthehands Sacrifice. The word you're looking for is sacrifice. Some people are going to have to stand up to these guys, non-violently, and get murdered on camera.
And it will likely need to be white women. Just like Renee Good.
The tree of liberty is thirsty, and it will get watered one way or another.

@inthehands The regime is telling on themselves here. They're intemperate, short-sighted, and incapable of strategy, and cannot comprehend that *not everyone is like that.* "Why aren't these protestors doing riots all the time? Our guys would've done 20 riots! Obviously they are weak and stupid." The truth is, we know the regime better than it knows itself, because the one thing fascists absolutely cannot handle is self-reflection.

@inthehands Signal networks of trusted partners. For the long haul in an asymmetric struggle.

@inthehands unfortunately “the news” is itching to show protesters in a bad light, to please their corporatist overlords

People are not mad enough.
Enough would mean, when people saw this unfolded, they'd rush to beat the shit out of ICE, and stop the kidnapping.
Until that happens, yes, things will get worse. -

@inthehands Speaking of tactics, I had a random thought... balloons.
Specifically, water balloons. Thrown at ICE cars. To make them extra ICE-y. Is it cold enough for that to maybe work? Freeze them into or out of their vehicles?

@inthehands This is why I was talking about the black panthers the other day - they shot almost no one, even the FBI's own numbers say they got like, 13 cops, total, and the FBI had every reason to try to inflate that number.
But they did show up armed and ready to shoot *back* if needed.
Which I think is a good balance forr where we're at now - don't start escalating shit, but make sure they know that if they start escalating, they're not going to be making to the hotel bar for drinks after. -

@inthehands a lot hinges on who in the military actually cares about disobeying illegal orders and that isn't pleasant to think about, but I agree with you.
