why did they call them "ai datacenters" when they could have called them "slopping malls"
-
@ana what would we call data centers in cruise ships?
-
why did they call them "ai datacenters" when they could have called them "slopping malls"
@ana Because you can enter a mall and peek at the rubbish, before you buy it. While with "AI" datacenters the slop is randomly mixed by some algorithm before it's sold as gold.

@ana Future unemployment receptacles. Energy bill rockets. Yeah, I can come up with some better ones.
-

@ana "datacenter" sounds high tech thus great for investors. Honesty tends to drive investors away (Uber didn't become a global taxi company by being honest about being taxis, they became a global taxi company by saying shit about personal limousines and calling it "ride sharing") -
why did they call them "ai datacenters" when they could have called them "slopping malls"
@ana Then actual dead malls converted to data centers should be called "sloppy seconds"
-
why did they call them "ai datacenters" when they could have called them "slopping malls"
because, contrary to what most people here think, AI is , and this is true, a very powerful tool that helps a lot of people get their work done
-
why did they call them "ai datacenters" when they could have called them "slopping malls"
@ana How 'bout calling them, Destroyers of Worlds, bringing up Oppenheimer's famous quote? -

@failedLyndonLaRouchite @ana Yes, humans were useless before LLMs.

not sure, but I think ana has blocked or muted me, so I can't see the OP
but I don't understand your postmy point is very simple: contrary to what many here think, AI is, today, a very powerful and very useful tool.
you can call me a fool or knave or liar, but that is what I and a lot of other think
that doesn't mean that *overall*, that AI is a net benefit: I dont know much about that
-
why did they call them "ai datacenters" when they could have called them "slopping malls"
@ana because the naming came from people who think "AI" is the best thing since the coming of Jesus or something
-
why did they call them "ai datacenters" when they could have called them "slopping malls"
@ana
dunno, "slopping mall" sounds kinda.. cozy? in a way? -
why did they call them "ai datacenters" when they could have called them "slopping malls"
@ana@starlite.rodeo Too much whimsy for techbros
-
why did they call them "ai datacenters" when they could have called them "slopping malls"
@ana@starlite.rodeo adding this to my voice over list if that's alright
️ -
@ana
There was an Omaha Nebraska USA datacenter that had been built in a dead mall... not sure it's still there.@NNN@bettercities.top @ana@starlite.rodeo there are very many such datacenters spread across the USA. my first job was working in one -

@failedLyndonLaRouchite @ana we can argue about whether that is true or not. but even assuming that is true, that doesn't fix the massive social, ethical, political and environmental issues with this technology
-
why did they call them "ai datacenters" when they could have called them "slopping malls"
Because that would've required some creative thinking, which they proved they have none of lol

@failedLyndonLaRouchite @ana "you can call me a fool or knave or liar, but that is what I and a lot of other think"
I do think this is the spectrum where you and "a lot of other" are, yes. You're either grifting, getting grifted, or being discarded in the AI game.

why did they call them "ai datacenters" when they could have called them "slopping malls"
@ana they tore down a mall and plan on putting a data center there near me. So yeah, that definitely fits.
