Been up all night with friends going through the unpleasantly long lists of infosec people in the Epstein Files. Yikes, guys. I knew some of them were pieces of shit, already - but too many other people fell for a transparent bid to illegitimatize elections, and I said so then.

️
@hacks4pancakes yuck
-
The emails about them considering going to DEF CON (likely to build support for election distrust) are absolutely wild and good on the goons for making them uncomfortable. Always make pdfs uncomfortable.
-
@munin @hacks4pancakes yeah this almost seems like it wants to be a wiki, structurally

@hacks4pancakes Relatively new to the space, and I do so love having to go Ctrl-F the most disgusting pile of emails to make sure I'm not considering any of these people as inspirational goals.
-
is there a list collated yet? I really don't want to have to search thru manually.
@munin@infosec.exchange @hacks4pancakes@infosec.exchange If you do end up searching manually, https://jmail.world/ is a very handy way to do it.

@hacks4pancakes I didn't need to learn that meaning of "PDF" today. *sigh*

@emma @grrrr_shark @hacks4pancakes Good thing I am immune then. Wait...

-
@emma @cR0w @grrrr_shark @hacks4pancakes I don't follow.

@Amoshias oh hai 4chan.

@Amoshias oh hai 4chan.
@emma uhh... what?
the purpose of telling someone they are not immune to propaganda is to help remind them that they need to be alert at all times, that you can't just relax and think you are better than all those dummies who fall for it.
this statement seems to be saying "that's wrong, don't believe it, just let yourself chill out and not worry about propaganda." that doesn't seem like a message that anyone on Mastodon would be particularly in favor of.
so what am I missing?
-
@hacks4pancakes I offer solidarity in the form of "wait, *how* many quantum computing people are in those files?"

@djfiander it’s the censorship avoidance standard for other platforms

@hacks4pancakes I work at a uni, so I already had to disambiguate between documents and researchers that were pdfs

@munin @xgranade @hacks4pancakes "I am Jack's complete lack of surprise"
@munin @xgranade @hacks4pancakes @brad Given the parties the cryptocurrency community throws on its own... Zero surprise there.

@darwinwoodka @munin @hacks4pancakes what would be super helpful is if someone we know, also knows the people who put this together and can vouch for their character?

In slightly related topic, in the latest dump, there was a report from an informant claiming Epstein had a private hacker who also sold exploits to several governments: https://techcrunch.com/2026/01/30/informant-told-fbi-that-jeffrey-epstein-had-a-personal-hacker/
The name was redacted though and its unclear if the FBI was able to verify the informant's claims@iampytest1 see https://infosec.exchange/@briankrebs/115996681756633815 and https://www.reddit.com/r/cybersecurity/comments/1qsi6ds/informant_told_fbi_that_jeffrey_epstein_had_a/ for the "personal hacker."

@hacks4pancakes Would definitely like to see the list.

@hacks4pancakes But in what context are they mentioned?
As in they one time went to an event hosted by/involving Epstein, or as in they were (allegedly) complicit in his crimes, or something in-between?Is this the latest dump of files or the older ones?
Thanks
@iampytest1 Its a -huge- mix.
There is the element of them wanting support for the whole voting machine distrust kerfuffle. Going to DEF CON, getting tickets, meeting hackers.
There is the element of tech people wanting ins from them. To get startup investment. To sell tech and exploits. To pitch. Just to be part of the crowd.
The first category is just a sad mix of people being duped or standing their ground and a rather amusing misconception of hacking scenes.
The second category is really bad.
