Been up all night with friends going through the unpleasantly long lists of infosec people in the Epstein Files. Yikes, guys. I knew some of them were pieces of shit, already - but too many other people fell for a transparent bid to illegitimatize elections, and I said so then.

@hacks4pancakes Relatively new to the space, and I do so love having to go Ctrl-F the most disgusting pile of emails to make sure I'm not considering any of these people as inspirational goals.

The emails about them considering going to DEF CON (likely to build support for election distrust) are absolutely wild and good on the goons for making them uncomfortable. Always make pdfs uncomfortable.

the purpose of telling someone they are not immune to propaganda is to help remind them that they need to be alert at all times, that you can't just relax and think you are better than all those dummies who fall for it.
this statement seems to be saying "that's wrong, don't believe it, just let yourself chill out and not worry about propaganda." that doesn't seem like a message that anyone on Mastodon would be particularly in favor of.
so what am I missing?

As in they one time went to an event hosted by/involving Epstein, or as in they were (allegedly) complicit in his crimes, or something in-between?Is this the latest dump of files or the older ones?

There is the element of them wanting support for the whole voting machine distrust kerfuffle. Going to DEF CON, getting tickets, meeting hackers.
There is the element of tech people wanting ins from them. To get startup investment. To sell tech and exploits. To pitch. Just to be part of the crowd.
The first category is just a sad mix of people being duped or standing their ground and a rather amusing misconception of hacking scenes.
The second category is really bad.
