    You know, I sometimes think about the language of #cinema and how, back in the days when effects weren't easy, much of the story would be implied rather than shown.

    It's a device used in novels too, so it's not just done because of budget restrictions. But I wonder how story telling in films has changed because of advances in technology.

    There are some great movies in recent years, but I don't think they are ones that rely on effects. So I wonder if the more successful movies are ones that revert to older, tested story telling techniques.

    I think of the #StarWars movies and how so much of Darth Vader is implied and how he really doesn't do all that much in terms of power. The same with the Emperor.

    Yet, the original movies are far better than any of the prequels.

    I think because of technical restrictions, much more effect had to be made on characters with notoriety, so characters can end up being badass without every showing it.

    I think that *can* be lost when technology allows film makers to show whatever they want.

    I suppose it's the old thing of: Not knowing is far worse than knowing or seeing because it makes the view use their imagination more, to imagine the very worst.
