    @janeadams Wow! that's something...

    I happened to write a blog post about parallel parking with some diagrams about the parking process. I can't guarantee it will be helpful, but it is all human-made drawings. https://davidbruffner.com/2019/10/03/parallel-parking-with-algorithms/

            @janeadams That's right up there with Jon Bois' legendary NFL overtime rules explanation.

              @janeadams I can’t stop chuckling at this. The best part is that the obviously-wrong images mask the also-wrong text instructions

                    @janeadams

                    That is about how my car's computer tried to automate that task...

                    My car is supposed to have automatic parallel parking, just press a button. I tried it the first week I bought it. Once. The curb height was not programmed into the sensors. And that is why the right front plastic fender has been crumpled for the last several years.

                      @janeadams @CiaraNi I’m old enough to remember when one needed a diagram like this, one drew it oneself.

                      Then the internet came along and for a brief moment was a fabulously useful resource where you could fine such info at a click or two.

                      I have lived long enough to see one now has to draw diagrams oneself again.

                          @baoigheallain @janeadams I'm getting nostalgic now for the way we used to give people directions to our homes before, say, a party. Hand-drawing a map, sketching in a few self-selected things we subjectively thought might serve as useful landmarks - that pub; this corner shop with the odd sign; the enormous pothole right on the corner.

                            @CiaraNi @janeadams Inter-railing we made friends on the channel ferry. They told us to look them up if we made it to Italy. The directions were ‘train to Casarsa, bus to Spilimbergo and ask for us.

                            We did, found them, and spent a great week with proper Italian home cooking.

                              @baoigheallain @janeadams Lovely experience. Both random and efficient all at once. And if someone on the street didn't know who you were looking for or where they lived, they'd direct you to post office or the newsagents because they knew everyone.

                                        @janeadams FWIW, one trick I learned from a taxi driver many years ago was to pass the front car (almost half way) before starting to back into the space.
