    Trump doesn't have the power to join it. Any international treaty requires the vote of two-thirds of the Senate.

        @gleick This would be true if the constitution still mattered and functioned. It doesn't.

            @gleick Well, no other country is a member yet, either. I doubt joining has been formally approved in any country. None of the so-called members are absolute monarchies (maybe with the exception of Saudi Arabia) or de jure dictatorships, so just the head of state signing something doesn't mean the country becomes a member.

                  @djwfyi @gleick The Constitution only ceases to matter if the United States ceases to exist. That goes both ways.

                      @djwfyi @gleick

                      It does.

                      This is why they can not allow a fair vote this November. This is why they are fighting on so many fronts. This, in part, is why they will send in Army units to Minneapolis.

                      The constitution, and our laws do matter. It's all they can do to get away with testing the limits and occasionally breaking the law.

                      They can not afford to show their disregard for our constitution just yet. The courts remain too strong and their strongest base will turn on them, finally.
