I'm not sure how my brain learned it, but, even though I automatically caught a falling cup today, before I consciously realized it, I also stepped back from a falling knife recently. Again, before I knew what was happening.

That may be a good move. My wife tripped and fell down three steps.

She put her arms out in front and broke both elbows.

She's still in pain, 35 years later.

We'll never know if a broken face would have been worse.

@EricLawton @MelissaBearTrix @VWDasher fucking ouch...! I seem to have deveopled a reflex of wrapping my arms around my head if I fall instead of trying to catch ground with my hands - it's definitely saved me from some head bumps & hearing her story, probably some wrist & arm injuries too.
