    Danish consumers have started to boycott U.S. products. UdenUSA, an app to identify U.S. products is now 4th most popular in the App Store.

    @johnnyryan There isn't a single isle in any supermarket that isn't completely dominated by US owned brands. You can't even pay for those products without using a US company and you can't use cash without using US ATMs. Coffee shops same thing. Anything online same thing. Take aways same thing. Even most farms cannot operate without using US tech...

    When you realise the sheer scale of US products and influence in your country, you'll realise this is mission impossible!

      @Rastal @johnnyryan I don’t know the situation in Denmark stores but here in Canada in my own supermarket I have been able to purchase Canadian made products and even European ones. If I have to purchase something American, it’s because there really is no other choice. Example—Dawn Powerwash—it really does a good job cleaning grease and there is no substitute yet. It takes a bit of work but I’m sure you can do it! 💪

          @johnnyryan As ordinary folks not clued up on the enormity of the supply chain and technology stack try to do whatever small part they can by not buying US products, I predict a flurry of purity-test comments here because they're all doing it wrong.

          (I hope more consumers are doing this very same thing and voting with their wallets)

            America, once hero, now enemy. Once a refuge, now an oppressor.

                @olberger @johnnyryan It is also available on "other" stores.

                And yeah... that Phone OS monopoly will need to be solved in the next decade. I am assuming the Linux superstar devs are on it.

                @BubblegumYeti @olberger @johnnyryan

                The Linux superdevs have mostly solved it. The remaining problems are mostly because hardware is locked down or undocumented.

                  @Rastal @johnnyryan Weird. Is UK so different from Germany? Here e.g. Nestle is 🇨🇭 , Unilever is 🇬🇧 , many other products of daily life are also European. Notable exceptions are mondelez (Milka etc), Kraft Heinz. But you can easily avoid all US products in supermarkets here.

                        @Mastokarl @johnnyryan Yes, UK is worse. In UK you'll never avoid US products no matter how hard you try.

                        There's an excellent [and mind blowing] book on the scale of US takeover of all aspects of UK society, including everything you can buy in Britain, all our public services, etc. It also compares US takeover of UK with Germany and EU countries. "Vassal State: How America Runs Britain by Angus Hanton"

                          @johnnyryan Great. But try completely not using US products from Amazon, Apple, Meta, Microsoft … and all that infrastructure. 🥴

                            @Lpm1 @Rastal @johnnyryan it's been pretty easy for me to avoid US products. Sure, sometimes it's not obvious or complicated (like Coca Cola which is licensed to a Danish brewery - but still there are 100% Danish or EU alternatives). Even payment the norm is a combined VISA card and Dankort (national solution) debit card. Not sure why they make it seem impossible. Then again the person has a Union Jack flag in their profile.
