This would be a connection between Canada's two largest cities.
I am so DONE with industrial capitalists holding sway over our ability to move people around this very vast country!!

@chris You need to translate this to:
VIA realized that removing the stop at Dorval (Montreal suburb) would reduce ridership massively, so had to find an excuse to cancel the plan. -

@chris @LaChasseuse yes Dorval airport is now (again) Montreal’s only airport since early 2000s (or maybe 1997) when they closed (and later demolished Mirabel.

@chris @LaChasseuse had they built the rail link they could have closed Dorval which was the ultimate goal. This was at a time where they thought Concorde (loud) would become standard and having airport outside of city was necessary. The two airport concept worked fir Washington with Dulles far from downtown.

@LaChasseuse @chris yes it was timed for Olympics but planned for long term growth and then very noisy aircraft that were not welcome to residents in Montreal. Remember that befor the PQ Montreal was metropolis and where most business headquarters were so generated much travel. It all shifted to to Toronto so the flights followed.

Following this thread I can't help thinking if we Canadians want to be closer to Europe and Japan, we need to start adopting their solutions rather than behaving like a vassal state of the US. #TrainlinesNotPipelines.
