@mangotable @FlockOfCats yeah the hose thing is definitely Gen-X I think.
our boomer friends drank directly from the leaded petrol nozzle didn't they

@FlockOfCats @falcennial @mangotable We didn't have to - lead pipes led right to the hoses.

️@FlockOfCats@famichiki.jp I do this, but with my trackball. Except instead of a q-tip and bowl of soapy water, it's me blowing into it, rubbing the ball with my shirt, and digging all the crap out of the trackball until it works. Rinse, repeat.

️@FlockOfCats What I hated about cleaning mouse balls is that it never seemed to help. It was still sticky and/or skippy afterwards.

@zillion

️@FlockOfCats Getting the hair and compressed kroonch off of the X, Y, and retention rollers was the worst.

️@FlockOfCats A decade ago I bought a super fancy gamer mouse, with the high speed sensor and the blinking glowy LEDs and the extra buttons, but I still have had to open it occasionally to clean out the dust from the optical sensor on the scroll wheel, and to spray contact cleaner in the switches.
Mouse maintenance doesn't end after castration.

️@FlockOfCats When my mouse ball got dirty I would just get a fresh one by boiling an egg and extract the yolk ball.

Do not recommend.

️@FlockOfCats If by “cleaned” we mean fingernail and spit then…

My work study job was in the nursing library and one of my core duties was cleaning all the mouse balls lol
I never really had a problem with the balls. But I've cleaned *lots* of crud off of the wheels inside!

️@FlockOfCats @josh to be fair, I don’t know that I ever actually cleaned one, but not because it was unnecessary, merely because I was lazy.
