I have been playing with a new term: "slop huckster"
A slop huckster is more than someone who likes to play with generative AI, or has some arguments for why they've been able to use it productively
Slop hucksters argue that generative AI means you should stop doing creative and productive things, kind of likes to rub it in your face that they can make creative persuits useless
The attitudes of slop hucksters resemble incels, a kind destructive bitterness stemming from jealousy

@cwebber "The attitudes of slop hucksters resemble incels, a kind destructive bitterness stemming from jealousy" perfect analogy.

It's like people who claim STEM is the only knowledge that matters, and dismiss the innate value of art as being some kind of pointless hobby.
Perhaps they don't have the empathy needed to understand why art and artists are also necessary?
(I mean any kind of sincere art here, where someone is trying to express something that means a lot to them.)

In general, slop hucksters also fail to understand the limitations of the tools they work with.
"Vibe coders" are the slop hucksters of code, or at least, those who wish to turn an entire vibe coded prompt into an unmaintainable codebase.

Step back a decade. If someone were to tell you, "in ten years we could have AI automate things so that everyone's lives are enriched." What story would you tell?
Most likely: automation will take away drudgery, so that people can focus on their artwork, their music, their code, their creative pursuits.
It's no wonder there's such a backlash.

I am fine with the use of generative AI to automate some of the boring parts. But slop hucksters aren't looking to automate the boring things, they're looking at removing the greatest joys in life at all, creative production.
It leaves life hollow, soulless.

There are really two ends to slop hucksters, the top and the bottom.
At the top are the profiteers, who just want to make money by stop paying for creative work.
At the bottom are those who were jealous of not being able to produce such things themselves.

@FediThing @cwebber This is why fiction is so important! I used to say these people don’t read, but that’s clearly not true because they read a ton of nonfiction/self help/productivity books but fiction teaches empathy and different points of view which is why they don’t like art

@cwebber The philosopher Kid Creole, covered it with his theses on #pseuds:
> Some people live off other people's dreams
> Reciting lines in someone else's scene
> They reach the sky, never touch the dirt
> Some other guy does all the work> Some people crave uncle's pumpkin pie
> They got the fruit, ain't got the spice
> Do all they can, take the recipe
> Then take the prize for originalityImitation, Tropical Gangsters

@Stanclark1400 that's fine, that's not within the realm of what I described in the first post

@cwebber sounds like every post on LinkedIn, hop on the train. AI can do it all. "I'm 10x more productive than I ever was." You getting paid 10x more?
