When #loops was announced, I was initially not so excited - I thought, I never used short video, TikTok etc so that's not for me.

When #loops was announced, I was initially not so excited - I thought, I never used short video, TikTok etc so that's not for me. I like text and the eventual image. Now I'm starting to get loops videos into my Mastodon feed just like any other content and I'm surprised how excited I get. The difference I'm seeing is that the short videos come in blended with other things. I'm not sucked in to a maelstrom of never-ending hyper-fast short videos (a dark pattern I particularly dislikes).

So my view on #loops is changing. I can see how t can become an exciting addition to all the other ways we can communicate and share. And because we have some power in how we network in the fediverse, we don't have to get manipulated by the short video format and triggered into addiction. What a relieving thought!

@malte It's fascinating how all of those fediversions [pun intended] of addictive big tech platforms just organically intermingle in whatever federated app/instance you use. And somehow the blow softens from the mix, they all become one big, lovely diversity.
