Google demands every developer's identity in the name of security.

Google demands every developer's identity in the name of security. Yet more than 50 Play Store apps hiding malware were installed 2.3 million times¹. Meanwhile, #FDroid, which builds every app from source and rejects black boxes, is under threat. This is not about security, it is about control. That is why I don't want to support this joke.

@apps Due to this developer verification crap I am advising people not to buy any phone whose bootloader cannot be unlocked to run either a 3ed party Android fork or a linux phone distro.
All of these plus phones sold mostly in China without Google Play services are not "Google certified," cannot run certain Gapps, and will be completely unaffected by developer verification. It remains unclear what happens to this developer verification crap when a stock Android phone is de-googled by removing Google Play Services and everything that depends on it.
Google Play Services/Store/account not welcome in my life.
If F-droid goes and Accrescent too, people who do not use Google or Crapple will have to download all apps from the developer's websites, verify them locally, and install them over ADB to bypass that 24 hour waiting bullshit.

What google (and apple) does feels wrong. Today "only" verification, tommorow a point where government can start the overreach like in the apple case in multiple countries.
People just don't realise how it works. Apple said locked bootloaders are only a security feature and now it used it for behavior control. (A locked bootloader makes it impossible to bypass whatever apple chooses to implement) -

> Experts recommend that Android users rely on devices with more recent security updates and install applications only from trusted sources.
Like... the app store that came with the device? That was vulnerable to malware? Almost feels a bit like sarcasm

@apps Sad it's come to this, but given the direction of big tech companies, it was inevitable. Guess I ain't buying a phone for a loooong while when mine finally breaks cos computer components are crazy expensive these days.

@apps is it necessarily because of less moderation at the store, or is google silenty supporting malware lingering on their app store?

@apps At present, Murena phones run /e/OS v4.3 (AOSPv16) and use apps from the F-Droid store or directly from Android app developers source code. They cannot cope with the demand for these ‘deGoogled’ phones. They don’t advertise; Google does that for them. #Fairphone6+ #GigasetGS6 #efoundation #murena_eos #Murenacloud

@apps whilst I find this claim to be generally plausible, the header image is clearly slop (stolen art) and the entire text is vague, referring to "available information, "it was reported", "according to the investigation". No links or reference to primary sources. I'd suggest the entire article is fabricated slop.
