@aram it is because of them being a sociopath that they are obscenely rich.

@aram it amplifies who we already are. Compare the assholes we talk about every day to Dolly Parton or J. David Bamberger.

@aram Both. Individual wealth tends to be accumulated faster on the back of others, thus rewarding that behaviour. Rewarding it repeatedly induces neural reinforcement, shifting the personality toward that behaviour even further.

@aram Both are definitely true, independently. Sociopaths are more willing to take wealth unfairly, but obscene wealth granted to normal people also soils the heart.

Notch was a reasonably nice person (by cishet white male standards) before his Minecraft payout. I often wonder how different of a person JKRowling would have been if she had never hit it big.

@twipped @aram JK Rowling was always like that. A reasonably close reading of Harry Potter shows that she has always thought that some people are naturally better than others. Maybe if she'd remained poor she would've kept those opinions to herself.

Wealth makes you feel important. Why wouldn't everyone want to hear the thoughts of important people?

@aram ...capitalism itself promotes and rewards these tendencies...and worse.

@Taco_lad @aram @jalefkowit @MThaastrup is that due to the riches or the power they hold?
