I just took a look at the archive folders for my 1st company's website (yeah, I'm a pack rat). The last edit date on oldest file I can see, a gif file, is August 6, 1996, 30 years old today!

I suspect the first iteration was older still, but I can't be sure.

My (only) sales and marketing guy was a bit of a tinkerer and got it started. I did some of the early work and pretty much took over maintenance when he left the following year.

www meant not world wide web, it means, world wide warehouse (shoping mall) nowaday.

It's not again the internet itself, just whole websites that builed to selling bullshit and cheer on capitalism.

@tunda I'll have to disagree. I won't argue that things aren't pretty dire. But we have the fediverse, and people are still making and maintaining personal websites and blogs.

The web is definitely not lost yet.

The fediverse is quit well, the ActivityPubProtocoll. I would like increase the Gemini-Protokoll, P2P, Panda2Panda for example.

@stefan When I was an undergraduate, one of my classmates came back from CERN having spent six months working on the World Wide Web. He showed us this thing called a web page that had, as I remember, a video of a girl skipping.

We were kind of interested but none of us had any inkling of the monster the web would become.

Now my office is in the same corridor as @timbl 's old office.
