This morning in Minneapolis:

Meanwhile, Schumer’s much-touted list of demands is (oh, shocker) pathetic weak sauce: “a prohibition on [ICE] wearing masks, the imposition of a code of conduct and independent investigations of violations.”
…which, like…
(1) Sure, that would be nice — comically insufficient, but nice
(2) DHS already ignore the very clear laws that are on the books; why on earth do you think it would help to have more rules for them to ignore?
(3) ICE+CBP right now are basically the KKK except with a budget the size of Russia’s military. Decimate that budget or GTFO.

Schumer's weaksauce is exemplar of the mathematical phrase: "necessary, but not sufficient."

@inthehands nothing will ever happen towards any progress while we have diseased brain centrist gerontocrats in charge of the dem party and DNC

This headline is a correct headline.

If you are a US voter, your Senator could perhaps stand to hear — again — that Schumer’s list is insufficient and abolishing ICE now has majority support.
Very soon the electoral stuff will become completely useless again, but for a hot minute here, until this budget fight ends and Schumer caves, those calls do help.

Schumer's hoping that he can make a deal and we can all forget about this by the time he's up for reelection in 2028.
We need more immediate solutions first but definitely making sure to remember as well so that at that point we can primary him so hard it physically hurts.

It just pisses me off as I keep re-remembering every 5 minutes that Schumer’s sad little list of demands were the negotiation •starting• position that’s going to get watered down.
I’m getting offline for a bit here. Bah.

@inthehands it's Schumer and the sad fact that so much of party leadership is as weak-willed as he is that had me change my registration to decline to state out of pure frustration.

@inthehands Schumer needs to go. When the dust settles, both broken parties will be relics of the past. There are new generations on the ground, and these parties are unable to represent them.

@inthehands Already sent the messages yesterday after his "Demands" hit the news cycle.
Told Schumer (and my other reps) that reforms are insufficient, and that I am encouraging everyone who will listen to me to participate in the national general strikes gathering attention, until ICE is abolished, DHS disbanded, & Trump, Miller, and Noem are in a cell awaiting trial. -
This morning in Minneapolis:
Somebody posted in one of the local chats that their neighbor didn’t come home last night, looking for help finding them. Family doesn’t know where they are. They’d been taking the legal path to seek asylum. ICE doesn’t have their name (but that means very little; they hide names, kidnap anonymously, even discard people’s IDs).
Meanwhile, confirmed ICE sightings are ramping up in my area now after some relative early morning quiet.
Just in case you wondered how things are going here.
@inthehands I'd like to know what happened to Al Franken. Where is he? -

@inthehands Never mind that none of this could pass without beating a filibuster against it, which Schumer can’t even pretend that he could whip to vote to win, even if he wanted to do so, which he very much absolutely does not.

@inthehands Maybe they should stop shooting unarmed civilians?
-
If anything is “de-escalated” in Minneapolis, nobody here can tell.
@inthehands
I feel like y'all in Minneapolis have been abundantly clear about what you want, which is "ICE out."Anything less is fucking bullshit. The behavior of Democrats is not any less disgusting just because it is completely unsurprising.

Look, this is just another case of people walking the pretty halls of power being completely disconnected from the reality on the ground.
Correcting some administrative detail DOES NOT address the ICE problem.
This method of thinking is a big damn reason fascism has escalated for a decade. These folx are culpable because they keep playing administration instead of defunding/saying no to the real, growing problem.
Schumer, tell us more about how government is ineffective...

@gbargoud @inthehands I mean, how much longer is he gonna try to cling to that seat? I can’t imagine wanting to stay in the senate in my 70s, much less 80s.

He's already so far past the point where I would want to fully retire and enjoy my life instead that I have absolutely no frame of reference for his thinking.
