Seems like a nice occasion for a reminder that this stuff is all made and run on a volunteer basis. There are many ways to contribute, but the easiest by far is by donating a little bit of money on a regular basis! Donât be deterred by feeling you have to give a lot - if a lot of people give a little thatâs much better. So give a little!
I use Liberapay, but patreon and ko-fi links are available under the âDonateâ menu entry at piefed.social. The average LiberaPay contributor gives less than a dollar per weekâwhich is awesome.
Alternatively, if youâre on another instance, consider giving a little bit to your instance to help keep it running! Itâs all running on love and goodwill, and it works precisely because people like you decide itâs worth contributing.
Itâs absolutely worth it to give to the Piefed project for how much effort these folks put in. If I were a developer Iâd contribute that way, too.

still a win. iâd rather the people who like it and put in effort stay than be awash with people who arenât bringing much. the biggest is the more people who try it and decide to stay the more diversity of thought weâll get. the threadiverse has a very eurocentric bias (here being the sociological construct, US and Canada both contribute to eurocentricism). i donât presume this will be fixed in this bump, but it is an opportunity for us who are already here to listen to new voices

We need some new (a couple) of general-use instances to help direct this traffic! Piefed.social will help you and redirect traffic to you.
If by âdirect trafficâ you mean to send them there, then Iâd say we donât need that, and shouldnât want it. The whole reason federation works is because control is spread out. Giving one, or a few, instances control of most of the content and users is a horrible idea and begging for issues. Speaking of, if youâre on lemmy.world, you should consider spreading elsewhere. At least donât send new people there.

Even if the graph not starting at zero could be misleading, a spike doubling the number of active user is still impressive.

Itâs an actual good increase but not starting the graph at zero is misleading. It didnât go from zero to the moon, it got from 1.5k to 3.5k, which is more than double, but not as exponential as the graph shows.
