i do have a piece of commercial only runs on windows professional software that requires locally install excel for one small feature to work. at least I don't need the cloud crap anywhere near the locked down windows VM.
and i only use that piece of commercial software when clients pay for me to use it. the FOSS alternatives do the job surprisingly well, and the only "innovations" the commercial app has are cloud features irrelevant to the core function of the software.

My new iMac has a use case: you can watch TV/movies on it, which seemed a little dubious on the Pi 5. Otherwise, ugh, I'm not loving Mac OS.

@maya_b @skinnylatte oh, yeah -- I had a 2008 27" iMac on my desk at my office, which gave up on Apple OS's quite a while ago, then hummed with Ubuntu until last year when i retired.

@skinnylatte Completely moved to #Linux but still looking for a way to do my income taxes with something not big tech based. German income tax management can't be done manually and no program runs cleanly under Linux (had one that did with Wine, but had to install Windows, when it refused the printout of the - completely ready - result needed to file it). And that's probably much worse if self employed …
