Plot for a post-modern fictional novel with social realism:

A lone wolf activist burns down a major US data center and it sparks a series of copy-cats in Asia and Europe. Suddenly in a few weeks, the world is left without its major data centers, and we realize the fragility of an internet-based economy.

But the outrage at the arsonists suddenly resides as people start fearing the return of their digitized lives. After having tasted the freedom from digital feudalism, a new way of life emerges.
