    Hello everyone,

I am happy to be joining the Fediverse. I have been feeling a need to find some social network to enjoy after recent setbacks around British Columbia and other parts of Canada. I popped around BlueSky for a bit, but it had the wrong feel.

For myself, I am a father of one cute autistic child and a teacher. Currently located near Vancouver, but I have lived over a wide part of British Columbia and Alberta.

I generally find myself hopping between different hobbies, but consistently find myself dabbling with computers, watching movies (especially bad horror movies), enjoying anime with my wife, writing bad fiction, and gaming. I have a soft spot for TTRPGs, but don't have much time anymore.

Welcome @MrYamatani and feel seen and not alone!

I hope you'll enjoy your stay here and make some nice connections into the community that suits you. FediVerse feels slow to start, so if you need any help getting more in your feed, just ask around as people are really helpful here.

Best way to start is to follow people as well as hashtags that seem interesting to fill your feed, and from there on just interact, as long as it's genuine and follows the don't-be-a-dick principle!

@MrYamatani Yes why leave one corporate social media for another? Still welcome aboard! P.S. Many autistics or neurospicey types on here too!

@Dianora Reasonable question and honestly don't remember the logic behind it. Then again, I never thought of myself as really logical, but I try my best.

@MrYamatani One of the founders of Twittler before it was sold to become Twittler was involved in BlueSky which would be a logical reason to think BlueSky would be like the older Twitter. I can understand that.

@Dianora I remember hearing that. I think my switch over was more due to a few friends from university making the switch. How many stayed? I don't know. I remember the engagement being better than Facebook. My stint of time if Twitter can be counted in days...

I found the Fediverse after hearing it mentioned on a few Linux podcasts I listen to and am enjoying it so far.

@MrYamatani Oh I just remembered, If you love bad horror movies it is possible #Monsterdon might interest. It's usually on too late for me on the right coast here in Ottawa.

@Dianora It does look interesting, but my little one is only 6 and still scared of most Disney movie scary scenes. I will keep an eye on it for when he grows up.
