@borisschapira I wished she had piled that code up again a few decades later... bit like the Beatles went back to that crossing

@borisschapira
This is interesting to me. Because I spend more time than I should looking for pictures of scientists when they were young, for my classes.

Textbooks typically have portraits of them as old people usually after an honour of some kind.

It's important to me that they see that great contributions are made by the young as well and they have a role to play. The greats had profound insights when they were undergraduates.

For the ageism part we have the amazing Brenda Milner.

@borisschapira if that photo was somehow irrelevant, i'd agree. but this is exactly related to the monumental achievement that most news/articles directly mention when talking about her. they're not just using it to find a "cute young woman" photo of her. c'mon, this skirts the line of "i really WANT to find something to rant about"

@borisschapira now, if only the men in charge had taken up the responsibilities of engineering along with the prestige of the title

@borisschapira somebody build a statue

@borisschapira "Looking overwhelmed" is really not what I see in the famous photo. It's pride and humor.

(Also, this is very nitpicky but she was 32 or 33 in it.)

@grindkind @borisschapira This is not about her cuteness. Read the room.

@borisschapira and now Software Engineering is ALSO dead

[grindkind@mastodon.social]

@cazencott @borisschapira Well this thread is. She was damn cute. Not only was she a legendary engineer, she was Queen Nerd Girl.

[itgrrl@infosec.exchange]
