Unfortunately, the publishing industry at large has started to use LLMs in a way I never thought possible. The publishing CEOs are pretending to hate LLMs while forcing their editors that don't wanna use it/them, use it/them. And I know these aren't local LLMs to the companies either because, psst, that's money they don't wanna pay, so they're using existing LLM providers and it's just frustrating and sad all the way around! I've gotten AI reviews in my sci-fi critique group (it seems the mods have cracked down thankfully) and they all seem to be designed to move the convo to email and then offer "pro" editing. I also submitted stories to a magazine offering pro rates; they rejected each story within two hours with an elaborate critique and an offer to edit more for $20. -

@WeirdWriter Was just talking with a friend a bit ago about my refusal to buy any sort of art made after 2020 cuz of AI and I see this...yeah I'm good with my choice Sucks real artists suffer but I already spend too much time checking and rechecking every fucking thing I buy so I don't shit to death (my allergens are appearing in foods they've never been in before on top of the shit bugs) or contribute more than necessary to the capitalistic nightmare

If you ever return to buying real art, there are artists (like me) who tag our anti AI sentiment in our posts, art, and are fervently against AI on every step. And we usually can recommend other artists who are also anti AI and would not be caught dead using one.
Especially here it is easier to find real artists.But I do understand the issue...the scammer amounts have risen so much and trust is the first thing the 1% sought to destroy.

I don’t get the appeal because everything I’ve read about them seems like it would be wildly insufficient for any editing task ever so I don’t get the appeal of token spending for that

I’ve corrected spelling and grammar issues in that narrative also by the way, but this is why I’m seeing a massive increase in events like audiobook listening groups at the library and things like that. I’ve actually found that my local library has a lot of events that I can tell people about my drafty writers group and everybody seems really interested
