@FediTips and
@FediFollows are good places to start.Also search hastags of stuff you are interested in. You can also follow hastags.
There are also various other listings of people here.
Another good way is find some interesting and look who they follow, or who else follows them.
Follow some artists, musos, crafters, flower or animal posters, to make your feed a bit softer
Follow lots, you can all ways unfollow if they annoy you. Or mute them for a period of time.
With no algorithm, also don't forget to like and boost. Boosting helps posts move around, particularly to/from small instances that wouldn't normally see them.
Also lots of Fork people are joining. Many have no or little followers. Follow them and make them feel wanted so they keep coming back.
