President Trump announces that from Feb.

President Trump announces that from Feb. 1, there’ll be a 10% tariff on all goods from Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, UK, Netherlands and Finland, increasing to 25% on June 1, until a deal is reached for the complete and total purchase of Greenland by the US.
@newsguyusa He signed a trade deal with the EU just a few months ago so, indeed, good luck with that.

@newsguyusa That's going to be hard on the US LEGO fans.

@newsguyusa IMHO there will never be a real deal with Trump. He will never stick to anything that is agreed upon. Even giving him Greenland would not change a thing (and should not be done).
So starting the fight now is a good time as any.
Canadians: Are you in?

“Trump can put a million-percent tariffs on Denmark, and it still doesn't change the answer about Greenland. There are only two possible endings to this bizarre story. Either Trump gives up, or else he goes through with a military invasion.” - Danish military analyst Anders Puck Nielsen
I'm guessing that the US's main commercial interaction w/ Denmark is with shipping company Maersk. . .

The EU should remind Trump of the amounts of treasury bonds they hold.

@newsguyusa Would those also be illegal tariffs? Edit: SCOTUS kicked the can down the road again.

@newsguyusa Donald Trump insists that people in his country must pay more for goods from European countries because those European countries object to the United States taking over a self-governing territory of a sovereign country against their will. Insane. Totally insane.
Trump's mad king syndrome is worsening.
@JoelKlebanoff @newsguyusa the problem isn’t Trump per se. If the man took his last breath in his sleep tomorrow night, you will just see somebody else come up the next morning to continue the work/momentum that is sponsored by the global fossil fuel industry, which includes Canadian companies and individuals.
Greenland is just a project or perhaps a distraction in itself (not saying it isn’t real, but a distraction). Where the world should be very afraid right now, and support the few who fight against it, is the conservative movement’s attack on the American Fed (Central bank). The people behind Trump have already gained control over the US Supreme Court, if they can also get control of the central bank, the world as you know it will definitely change, with or without Greenland. -

@newsguyusa Wondering what prevents countries from channelling exports to the US through countries not (yet?) having troops in Greenland, like Poland. That's what China is doing through SE Asia. Charging different tariffs to different countries incentivises this kind of 'export planning'

The deal is worth

Can’t trust the US
One may hope for a less insane admin
But hope is not a good strategy either -

@josemontesinos @newsguyusa can you point to any time in history where Donald Trump has honored a deal he made? He even wrote a book called “the art of the deal” where he explains in great detail how he makes commitments to get financed and then uses that money to take the situation hostage. After that, he brags about going back and renegotiate because he has “all the power” to do so (holds the cards).
The Western Banks learned all about him during the 1980s and the 1990s, which is why he was blackballed from most of them, which put him in a cash crunch. His enterprise was, eventually, financed by Russian banks or rather Cypress banks funded by Russian (old Soviet) money in the last minute, which why the Russians had so much power and influence over him… nowadays, as Russia’s financial situation is much different, I have a feeling that his empire is underwritten by middle eastern money, which is why you see them pop up (with Jared Kushner) in most all of America’s affairs.
