@randahl @JimmyB i don’t know much about https://gaza-verified.org/ but they warn of scammers and link to people who post on timeline - i warn of scammers who post DMs, so at least on that i agree with them

@JimmyB @randahl for the record, I think the people of Gaza are in such a dire situation they can't afford to sit all day composing DMs to individuals on a minuscule social network, while scammers will send individual DMs exactly because they get responses (money) — and BTW if you ever respond they'll move convo to Whatsapp or some other network where they can't be quickly blocked

@randahl @JimmyB that's ok. I only try twice to direct people to authoritative sources of information (I assume my writing wasn't clear first time) and then bounce. I just don't want you to get upset over the absent etiquette of spammers

I don't have a problem with your politics, and if you want to mail scammers a cheque to feel good that's not my problem, I'm just cluing randahl that this is a very common scam technique and has nothing to do with etiquette

(PS I recommend reading about scam complexes, how people get imprisoned there, etc)

@JimmyB @randahl in Gaza they dont have time, electricity and reliable internet to DM people - if they need help they’d publish on Facebook or Twitter where you reach millions with one post

People who DM you directly work in a scam center in Myanmar and rely on gullibility
