I'm not saying the Trump administration is turning the US into a dystopian hellscape, but when the local newspaper needs to help you identify what toxic gas Federal agents are unleashing on citizens, I think it speaks for itself.

Still, dumping on the people who are actively opposing Trump out of frustration for the Americans who continue to support Trump is no way to encourage rebuilding, engagement, and disobedience.

@javensbukan Even as an American, I support economic pressure that might harm the US and force change. After all, that's the primary tool wielded by Trump against our allies.

@maya_b I wrote my Democratic senator to express very candid frustration in her lackluster approach to fighting Trump. I intend to keep it up.

At the same time, I suspended contributions to the Democratic party until their leaders grow a spine.

@smattymatty You can have high expectations, but as I ask anyone criticizing me--what, precisely, do you expect individuals to do? What are those "high expectations"?

I vote. I contribute money to progressive causes. I march. I write my senators. And I raise my voice.

Does that not meet your high expectations?

If your goal is to oppose Trump's damage inside the US and across the globe, then actively trying to suppress online dissent of Trump feels like it's contrary to your goals.

Some of us are raising our voices, marching in protest, writing our senators, and encouraging people to vote. Not sure what else you expect of individual citizens, but shaming the ones vocally opposing Trump for being American is no way to encourage resistance.

There is a trend on Mastodon among those outside the US to shame those of us in the US who are complaining about Trump. They seem to think that blaming all Americans is somehow helpful.

I get the frustration with the American people for unleashing Trump on the world. Just don't take it out on those of us who actively opposed him before the election and continue to do so today.

@jwcph I did, too. I'd put my finger up, laugh, then put it down and think, "It's not that funny, is it?" So, I'd put my finger up and laugh all over, again.

The same people who today are saying Renee Good was asking to be killed by refusing to comply with ICE officers are the same people who continue to say Ashli Babbitt was murdered as she ignored Capitol police warnings and climbed through barricaded door at the US Capitol.

MAGA doesn't really care about laws, justice and the Constitution. They just want to see liberals hurt.

Sad and true:

A former writer for South Park foresaw Trump's takeover of the Kennedy Center and had the foresight to register the domain names trumpkennedycenter dot org and dot com back in August. JFK's niece thanked him for doing so. Of course, the Trump-controlled board now wants their domain name and threatened legal action. His response is brilliant.
