#China's giant Gobi #solar plant runs after dark on salt, not batteries
During the day, the PV array feeds the grid at full load. The 100MW concentrated solar power (CSP) unit does something different: 260,000 tracking mirrors covering 800,000 square meters of collector surface focus sunlight to heat #moltensalt to 550°C (1,022°F). That heat is stored, then used to produce steam and spin a turbine once the sun goes down.

DHL France in partnership with French shipping company #VELA to offer #freight services aboard wind-powered cargo trimarans between Europe and the US.
Route will connect Caen-Ouistreham, France, with New Haven, Connecticut, using #sailing vessels that rely on wind for propulsion. Each ship will carry up to 600 European Union pallets per voyage, and VELA is targeting a port-to-port transit time of 15 days.

Hot hours of #summer could triple in the coming decades
Researchers defined extreme heat as anything above the 90th percentile of recorded temps between 1981-2010. To put this in context, the global average over the last four decades has been that people experience about 270 hours of “hourly heat extremes". But that average obscures a very obvious trend: that it has been increasing by 62hr per decade https://arstechnica.com/science/2026/08/tracking-extreme-heat-by-the-hour-makes-climate-change-seem-even-worse/
