@Ruth_Mottram Self-hosting is great, but does create risk of unrecoverable data loss in the event of a disaster such as a fire. I’m working with a few friends on E2EE backup to each other’s homes to mitigate that risk. We bought some lightly used enterprise-grade hard drives in a bulk surplus sale, and we’re each reserving each other a few terabytes for an encrypted volume, so each of us has our most important data replicated in three cities.
That and setting up periodic tests to remind ourselves of our backup encryption passphrases and to test our backups are the last barrier before we can ditch the mainstream cloud storage providers.
